So about four years ago a very dear friend of mine Barry Stephenson moved to New Orleans. After his first year of becoming acclimated to the city he decided that he wanted to record an album featuring the musicians that he had grown to love and admire while at Florida State University. So he set forth to bring everyone from their respective cities to New Orleans for a week of recording his album Basic Truths. This experience lead to a mass exodus of musicians from FSU to New Orleans over the next few years, in which I was among them. I had the distinct pleasure of mixing and engineering the project and am happy to say that after almost four years of sitting on the shelf Basic Truths is ready to be released.
The record is a time capsule of musicianship, friendship, and relationships. Since the beginning of the new year Barry and I have set out to bring the essence of the magic that happened and are happy to say that it sounds great and is finally done! If you happen to be familiar with the musicians Jamison Ross (drums), Chris Pattishall (piano), Ricardo Pascal (saxophone), Joe Goldberg (saxophone/flute), Ricio Fruge (trumpet), or Emily Fredrickson (trombone) then you are in for a treat with Barry Stephenson’s Basic Truths. It has been an honor and a privilege to be a part of Basic Truths.
